Ikunza Class and Highland Street Foundation's Youth Philanthropy Initiative

For the eighth consecutive year, our eighth grade students had the opportunity to work on the Highland Street Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Initiative. Their project was highlighted in the Worcester Telegram & GazetteWorcester Magazine, and Charter TV3 News (articles and video below).

Our students learned about philanthropy and nonprofit organizations in their service learning classes and reflected on their own personal values to determine what services they deem most important for the Worcester community.

The students visited United Way of Central Massachusetts and learned how they decide what programs they support. The students then chose how to disburse the $5,000 of grant funds to four local organizations.
