Nativity School of Worcester offers a comprehensive, quality education to students facing economic hardship as a result of the dedication, hard work, and passion of its Nativity Fellows. Nativity Fellows are distinguished, recent college graduates who are passionate about creating an inclusive, antiracist curriculum and learning environment for students from underresourced communities.
Nativity Fellows teach or co-teach three to four class periods per day in addition to serving as advisors, tutors, proctors, coaches, nurses, janitors, drivers, monitors, and managers of all other responsibilities that promote the students’ well-being. Applicants need not be education majors and need not have a teaching certificate.

Room & Board
Fellows live together in a furnished community house and share a monthly food budget. Nativity School covers all costs associated with housing and utilities.
Stipends & Insurance
Fellows are provided with personal living stipends – $500 per month for first-year Fellows and $600 per month for second-year Fellows – instead of traditional teacher salaries. Nativity covers 100% of Fellows’ health insurance premiums. In addition, Fellows receive car insurance for school-related transportation.
Graduate Degree Programs
Assumption College and Clark University have graciously partnered with Nativity School of Worcester to offer our Fellows a unique graduate school opportunity. Fellows have the opportunity to pursue many of Assumption College’s graduate degree programs, free of tuition costs. Fellows may pursue a Master’s in the Art of Teaching (M.A.T.) at Clark University through the application of their AmeriCorps Education Award. There is an additional out of pocket cost for Fellows pursuing the M.A.T. degree from Clark University.
It is the responsibility of the Fellow to apply, to be accepted into the program, to enroll and to provide the principal with sufficient notice of Assumption College or Clark University classes. The Fellow is responsible for any fees and the costs of books that are not included in the tuition. Nativity School of Worcester will schedule teaching responsibilities to accommodate this unique learning opportunity.
Loan Deferment
Fellows qualify for deferment or forbearance on their college loans during their time of service via their respective loan service organizations. Fellows may also receive cancellation of a portion of their Perkins Loans as Nativity School is a qualifying school under the Perkins Loan Low-Income School Cancellation Program (15% canceled for each year of service).
AmeriCorps Educational Award
All previous Fellows have received an AmeriCorps Educational Award ($6,500 for each year of service – two years maximum). An AmeriCorps Educational Award can be put toward future educational costs or toward current educational debts.
Transportation
The Fellows travel to and from Casa Maria in four school vehicles (three 12-passenger vans and one 15-passenger van). Nativity covers all costs associated with these vehicles including gas, maintenance, and insurance.
