Lander Perez, a graduate from the Mveng class, is our Grad of the Month for October! Perez is a proud Nativity graduate, and as a lot of good advice for our younger students. Read up on Lander below!
What school do you attend?
I am currently in my senior year at Saint John’s High School.
How does it feel to be a Nativity grad?
Being a Nativity graduate has given me a home away from home because no matter how busy my schedule is, whenever I’m on my way home in traffic, I manage to find myself at Nativity. I go there whether it’s to just stop by and ask questions about college things, to just relax, or play basketball. I know Nativity is ready for me with open arms.
Where do you work currently? What is the best thing about school?
I work at Footlocker and at the high school I currently attend. The best thing about school is that I can connect with all of my teachers this year whether it’s inside or outside the classroom.
What did Nativity mean to you when you went here? What does it mean to you now?
When I went to Nativity, it became a home and an important stepping stone that I won’t ever forget about no matter how far I am on my journey. Now that I’m older, Nativity is a place where I will always be happy to see familiar faces. I can always go back there for whatever the reason is, whether it’s for academic purposes, seeking guidance with career or job searching, or even if I want to get away from home for some time.
What is your favorite Nativity memory?
My favorite Nativity memory was winning MVP my 6th grade year for basketball and adding two chips to the banner that year.
What are your goals, dreams, and aspirations? Any accomplishments that you’d like to share?
My goal is to attend a 4-year Catholic college, specifically Holy Cross, and I want to major in accounting & finance with a minor in psychology.
What advice would you give to younger Nativity students?
Advice I would give to any younger Nativity student is make sure that you do everything at 100% and do everything with a goal in mind! It’ll help keep you motivated. Make sure to embrace whatever journey you’re on no matter how hard it gets and remember that all the adversity you face is preparing you for the real challenges ahead of you when you leave as a Nativity student.
