My name is Dervin Hylton Jr. and I am a member of the 2013 Mayer class. From Nativity I went to Worcester Academy and later, Fordham University, where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics. I currently work in the Aerospace industry for a laser projection company called Aligned Vision. I can confidently and proudly say where I am today, the skills and knowledge I’ve attained – and the person I’ve become was all possible because of Nativity. One of the most important skills I’ve learned from my time here is how to be a sponge – how to receive information, translate it to valuable knowledge, and use it to progress toward your goals. Another skill I learned is perseverance; many times as we go through life we are faced with difficult times. Whether these struggles come for career opportunities, social relationships, family relationships, etc. we all have obstacles that we must face. Obstacles can look different for every individual but the effects can be similar – feeling discouraged, overwhelmed, maybe even afraid. It is our response to these obstacles that mold our character and because of my experiences here at Nativity, I’ve amassed strategies and techniques on how to overcome obstacles in your life that I’d like to share with you.
