Joveto De Carvalho, a graduate from the Xavier class of 2007, is our Grad of the Month for May! Joveto is a proud Nativity graduate from our second class of graduates, and has a lot of good advice for our younger students. Read up on him below!

Where did you graduate from high school?
New Canaan High School. I was part of the A Better Chance (ABC) program during that time.

Whether you recently graduated or some time has passed, how does it feel to be a Nativity grad?
Graduating the Nativity School of Worcester is one of my proudest accomplishments in life. It’s a blessing and a flex to be part of such an impressive community.

Where are you going to school? What is the best thing about attending that school?
I work at TJX, and one of my favorite things about working there is that sometimes I run into Helene Horan Winn, who used to be my Evening Study tutor at Nativity!

What did Nativity mean to you when you went here? What does it mean to you now?
Nativity meant home. Not only because of the sheer amount of time I spent there but also because of the immense sense of belonging and comfort I received from it. While I don’t attend or work at Nativity any more, it will always be a part of who I am.

What is your favorite Nativity memory?
Meeting my best friend. Funny enough, it wasn’t when I was a student but when I came back as a teaching fellow. Her name is Ms. Brosnihan and we have a wedding coming up.

What are your goals, dreams and aspirations? Any accomplishments that you’d like to share?

I aspire to learn how to play the cuíca some day. It’s a Brazilian instrument common in samba music. I completed some beginner level bachata classes some time ago!

What advice would you give to younger Nativity students?
Learning to fail forward is a superpower. Embrace failure and use it as part of your story. You’re in a safe environment with some amazing adults that can help you hone this skill.

Thank you, Joveto, and congrats on being our May Grad of the Month!
